How Bongani Zungu landed at AmaZulu FC
Veteran midfielder Bongani Zungu has revealed how he ended up at AmaZulu FC following his departure from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Zungu was unveiled by the KwaZulu-Natal outfit this week, along with ex-Orlando Pirates defender Sandile Mthethwa.
The former Bafana Bafana international joined Usuthu on a permanent contract as a free agent. His signing is anticipated to add significant value to the club and lead them to success.
Having left Bafana Ba Style at the end of the 2023/24 campaign, Zungu revealed that he left the Chloorkop-based outfit for his own ‘mental happiness’.

The 32-year-old expressed that he became part of AmaZulu based on his abilities, not due to his shared surname with Usuthu president Sandile Zungu.
However, the seasoned midfielder revealed that the club’s president was instrumental in attracting him to AmaZulu after five months of discussions with other teams in South Africa and overseas.
“Well, it was not because I was a Zungu. As I had just mentioned happiness is important,” said the ex-Amiens SC man, Zungu.
“Obviously, in the last few months, I spoke to a lot of clubs in South Africa and outside South Africa.
“I had time to think about what was going to make me happy. So, when I spoke to the president and some of the guys here at AmaZulu, they explained how the club is and the environment within the club. For me, that was very appealing.”
He added: “Yes, the president played a major role to try to get me to come here. I’m very happy and grateful to be here.
Zungu has already hit the ground running as he awaits his debut for Usuthu in due course.
