Mosimane reveals his only hope of fixing Esteghlal FC problems
Veteran coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed his only hope of fixing Esteghlal FC current problems in the Persian Gulf Pro league.
Mosimane has improved the Persian Gulf Pro league outfit after they started the 2024/25 season on a low note.
Since his arrival, the former Bafana Bafana mentor has instilled belief in the Esteghlal FC’s players, something that was lacking before he arrived. Plausibly they have managed to reinvent themselves to play with confidence when faced with any type of opponent.
Recently they refused to be cowed into submission by star-studded Saudi Pro league giants, Al Ahli Saudi. They have gone on to avoid defeat in the last seven games, where they secured three wins and four draws.
While all departments in the team appear to be stable, Mosimane is worried with his strikers’ precision. In seven games, they managed to score seven goals. They have not only been wasteful but have lacked the character that the 60-year-old coach demands.
In addition, the team has remained stuck on eighth position for the last three weeks as they now sit on 16 points after 13 rounds of matches. As a result, the team’s scoring rate has left Mosimane banking on the upcoming transfer window to improve efficiency in front of goal.
WHAT VETERAN COACH, MOSIMANE SAID
Addressing the media after his strikers wasted chance after chance in their 1-1 draw against Aluminium Arak on Friday, Mosimane said: “I am not playing, remember. All I do is to put the structure and the plan of how we play to create the opportunities to score. How you put it in the nets is not my problem, I don’t play football but I accept that they are my players and they are my team.
“That is why we have a chance in January to try and fix this problem. My strikers are [Blanco] Gustavo Blanco Leschuk and [Arman] Arman Ramezani. That’s what I have and I don’t want to talk about Masoud Juma because he is not available at the moment.”
