Kaizer Chiefs’ Naledi Hlongwane names Carling Cup dream teammates
Kaizer Chiefs Diski Challenge star Naledi Hlongwane has named his Carling Cup All-Stars XI dream teammates after his impressive showing on Saturday.
The teenager made a significant impact in Saturday’s Carling Black Label Cup, scoring two goals as the Carling All-Stars XI defeated Magesi FC 3-0.
Hlongwane shared the spotlight with Amakhosi’s Samkelo Zwane, who also scored and provided an assist. The match, hosted at Orlando Stadium, saw the All-Stars successfully defend their Carling Cup title under coach Jose Riveiro.
WHO ARE NALEDI HLONGWANE’S DREAM TEAMMATES?
Hlongwane expressed his admiration for playing alongside Orlando Pirates duo Patrick Maswanganyi and Tshegofatso Mabasa and Mamelodi Sundowns veteran midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch.
The 19-year-old spoke in a post-match interview, expressing his excitement at winning the R100 000 Man of the Match prize money.
“I couldn’t believe it. I’m very happy to have been able to play today, and I didn’t expect to win the Man of the Match. It was a great experience,” Hlongwane told SABC Sport in a post-match interview.
“We only trained for two days before we could play our match. But God knows why he granted me the Man of the Match accolade.
“It was incredible to train and play alongside the likes of ‘Nyoso’ [Thembinkosi Lorch], ‘Tito’ [Patrick Maswanganyi], and Tshegofatso Mabasa. It’s something that every youngster wants to experience. But all I can say for now is that the rest is history.”
NALEDI HLONGWANE ON SCORING BRACE
Hlongwane shared that he informed his teammates in their training session that his sole desire is to score two goals, after which he would be okay with being substituted.
“I don’t have much to say. I’m even surprised myself. I really can’t believe it. But I felt it from the training session, and I told them [Carling All-Stars teammates] that I only wanted to score two goals before I could be substituted. So, if I could score those two goals, I’ll be happy and can be substituted immediately,” he added.
