10 starts, 7 goals, 3 MoTM: Kaizer Chiefs youngster’s targets

Confident and ambitious, a vibrant spark of talent at Kaizer Chiefs has boldly outlined his targets for the current season, aiming for 10 starts, seven goals, and three Man of the Match awards.

Chiefs boast a promising crop of young talent, with several players showcasing their abilities on Saturday at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.

In the Carling All-Stars’ victory over Magesi FC, Amakhosi Diski Challenge [DDC] star Naledi Hlongwane shone brightly, scoring two goals within the opening 25 minutes against the Carling Knockout Cup champions. Fellow Chiefs youngster Samkelo Zwane also impressed, contributing a goal and an assist in the 3-0 victory.

Beyond this showcase match, the likes of Wandile Duba, Mfundo Vilakazi, and Mduduzi Shabalala have been making significant strides under the guidance of coach Nasreddine Nabi in the SA elite league.

With ambition driving him forward, one of the youngsters at Amakhosi, Vilakazi, is targeting increased playing time, a strong goal-scoring record, and accolades for his on-field performances in the 2024/25 season.

The 19-year-old has made 10 appearances across all competitions for ‘Amakhosi’ this campaign so far. He’s shown flashes of brilliance, including a well-taken goal against Marumo Gallants.

The attacking midfielder also showcased his talent in the Carling All-Stars match against Magesi FC, where he won his second consecutive Carling Cup title.

In addition, Vilakazi impressed during the November FIFA international break, scoring in the Home of Legends Cup semi-final against Golden Arrows as Chiefs secured victory.

“My targets for the season is to start at least 10 games and score more than seven goals, and get three Man of the Match awards,” Vilakazi told FARPost. “I would consider that a successful season.”

Vilakazi also briefly touched upon his experience working with coach Nabi. He expressed appreciation for the coach’s belief in young players.

“Working under coach Nabi is good for my growth as a player as he is a coach who is open and very clear about what he wants from us as players and as a team,” added Vilakazi. “To continue to play, I need to listen to his instructions and work hard.”
