36 and still going strong: Grobler reveals his motivation
SuperSport United striker Bradley Grobler, a veteran of the SA elite league, has revealed the key factor that continues to fuel his impressive performances at the age of 36, showcasing that age is merely a number in pursuing footballing excellence.
In SA, the careers of many footballers are prematurely written off once they surpass the age of 32. Finding opportunities to continue playing professionally can become a significant challenge. However, Bradley Grobler, the veteran striker for SuperSport United, defies this trend.
Despite facing numerous injury setbacks throughout his career, including a recent knee injury that sidelined him for a significant portion of the current season, Grobler has consistently proven his resilience and value to the team.
Now back on the field, he has rediscovered his scoring touch, netting crucial winning goals in his last two league matches against Richards Bay FC and Magesi FC. As one of the oldest players and a respected leader within the SuperSport squad, Grobler continues to inspire.
BRADLEY GROBLER SAYS HE WANTS TO LEAVE A MARK IN SA FOOTBALL
The former Bafana Bafana striker says he’s still playing football at the age of 36 because he wants to leave a mark when he decides to hang his boots.
“I think it starts from taking care of yourself,” Grobler told FARPost. “I have been playing football for a long time, and I know what one should do and sacrifice to have a long career.
“Well, when it comes to injuries, I have been unlucky in that case. That’s something I cannot control, but I can try to improve my performance when playing.
“Football is something I love, and I know there are a lot of people [current players and future players] looking up to me. What I can demonstrate to them is playing football and leave a mark that will inspire someone to have a great career in football.”
