Peter Mokaba Stadium facing pitch dilemma ahead of Pirates visit
The Polokwane Municipality have confirmed fears that the damaged pitch at Peter Mokaba Stadium, due to the music concert hosted on Saturday, will not be able to host Betway Premiership fixtures until next year.
Sekhukhune United are set to host Marumo Gallants on Saturday, 28 December. The following day Magesi FC are scheduled to host Orlando Pirates at the same venue.
This publication also visited the venue on Tuesday and can confirm that the pitch is severely damaged. This is due to the One Woman Show hosted by Limpopo musician Makhadzi at the venue.
The Municipality has confirmed to FARPost that both matches will now have to be moved to the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
PETER MOKABA STADIUM’S DAMAGED PITCH WILL NOT HOST PSL MATCHES UNTIL NEXT YEAR
“We acknowledge that the New Peter Mokaba Stadium pitch sustained significant damage during the recent festival,” said the Municipality.
“After a thorough assessment, it has been determined that the pitch requires extensive intervention and will not be able to host the scheduled Betway Premiership matches this weekend and maybe in January 2025.”

“To ensure the continuity of these fixtures, we have initiated discussions with all relevant stakeholders to relocate the matches to the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Simultaneously, plans are underway to refurbish the damaged pitch and restore it to the required standard in preparation for upcoming Betway PSL Premiership fixtures.
“We remain committed to maintaining the highest standards for our facilities and ensuring minimal disruption to scheduled events. Updates will be provided as the refurbishment progresses.”
The next scheduled match at the venue will be between Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United on 12 January.
