Owen Da Gama on the verge of joining Magesi
Magesi FC are on the verge of appointing former Orlando Pirates coach Owen Da Gama as Clinton Larsen’s replacement, FARPost has learnt.
Larsen stepped down from his role at the Carling Knockout champions last week, citing a lack of results in the Betway Premiership as the reason.
The former Golden Arrows coach announced his resignation from Magesi live on TV following the club’s 3-0 defeat against the Carling All-Star team in the Carling Black Cup at Orlando Stadium in Soweto last week.
Magesi played the All-Star team voted for by the fans after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 2-1 in the Carling Knockout Cup final to lift a trophy in their maiden season in the SA’s top-flight.
Despite showing impressive form in the CKO, Magesi have struggled to display the same form in the league. The Limpopo-based side is currently rooted at the bottom of the league table with six points after nine matches played.

Since gaining promotion from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the start of the campaign, Magesi have only managed to win one league match, drew three and lost five times. The dismal run has seemingly pushed Larsen to the exit door as the season approaches the halfway mark.
Meanwhile, this publication has established that Magesi have put an offer to Da Gama on that table. The 63-year-old is currently head coach at SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Vondwe XI Bullets.
Owen Da Gama is a coach with vast experience in South African football, having coached clubs such as Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy, Platinum Stars, Highlands Park and SA’s U23 team.
The experienced coach will be tasked with a big role of moving Magesi out of the relegation zone in the coming months.
Dikwena Tṧa Meetse will face Pirates in their last match of 2024 in the Premiership on Sunday, 29 December at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.
Interestingly, The Buccaneers are coming from a rampage 8-1 drubbing of Marumo Gallants in the league on Christmas Eve at Orlando Stadium.
