Edward Manqele reveals hunger for PSL return

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns striker Edward Manqele has shared his aspirations of seeing himself back in the PSL.

Manqele is currently playing for SAFA Limpopo ABC Motsepe League side Sunrise FC.

His last club in the PSL was in the Motsepe Foundation Championship playing for Pretoria Callies. The 37-year-old has received another lifeline after joining former teammate Tebogo Langerman at the ambitious club in the third-tier league.

He tells FARPost that his immediate target is to help the Limpopo club gain promotion to the National First Division [NFD] at the end of the season.

WHY EDWARD MANQELE STILL HAS ASPIRATIONS OF A RETURN TO THE PSL

“In football, anything is possible, and me coming here [Sunrise FC] is for me to help the team. I am still hungry,” Manqele told FARPost.

“Tebza [Tebogo Langerman] has seen me because I played with him last year in December after we were invited to play in a masters game. Me coming here is to see the team playing in the NFD [Motsepe Foundation Championship], and I think I will be there also.

“I will be glad that I took the team to the NFD. So maybe there will also be offers from PSL teams. Only God knows what will happen. But for me it is just to push Sunrise to the next level. But then anything is possible,” he added.

“The players that we also have are still hungry and it’s young boys. So as senior players, we have to lead them in the right direction and we can do it.”

Manqele also opened up about finding himself playing in the SAFA League after a decade in the professional ranks.

“As a player, you need to adjust to any conditions. I have played in the PSL and NFD before so I am quick to adjust to any condition,” he added.

“Me coming here is nothing new because I started in the Castle League and took the team to the ABC Motsepe League. So there is not much of a difference. That’s why I couldn’t struggle to adjust.”
