A former teammate of Mduduzi Shabalala has offered his assessment of the young midfielder’s progress at Kaizer Chiefs, providing valuable insights into his current form and potential.

Shabalala’s journey with Chiefs has seen a gradual progression. He was promoted to the senior team in June 2022 by then-coach Arthur Zwane after impressing with the club’s development side in the DStv Diski Challenge.

Since his promotion, Shabalala has gradually integrated into the first team. Under the guidance of coaches Zwane, Molefi Ntseki, and Cavin Johnson, he has made 44 appearances across all competitions, contributing four goals and four assists.

However, it is under the tutelage of current coach Nasreddine Nabi that Shabalala has truly flourished. The talented attacking midfielder has become a key figure in the team, consistently featuring in the starting line-up.

In 11 matches across all competitions this season, the former SA Under-20 international has already showcased his attacking prowess with three goals and two assists to his name.

Kgaogelo Sekgota, who departed Kaizer Chiefs ahead of the 2023/24 season, has expressed his confidence in Mduduzi Shabalala’s development.

The former Chiefs winger believes Shabalala is progressing well and has the potential to make a significant impact for the Soweto giants. Sekgota himself joined Stellenbosch FC before moving to Magesi FC.

“He is coming up nicely; I know him. We even played together at the club [Kaizer Chiefs],” Sekgota told FARPost. “I think he has improved a lot, and he’s a hard-working player.

“There is a lot of potential in him. He is such a humble person. He should continue working hard, and he will reach a top level in his career.

“So far this season, he has done well; he shouldn’t look back but keep on pushing and improving his performances. He’s an important player in the team, and he’s getting some game time, which is good for a young player.”
