Sekhukhune compound Gallants’ problems, SuperSport and Stellies share the spoils

Sekhukhune United compounded Marumo Gallants’ difficulties with a victory, while SuperSport United and Stellenbosch FC battled to a draw in the Betway Premiership.

Babina Noko beat Gallants 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, courtesy of a solitary strike from Keletso Makgalwa in the second-half.

Gallants came into the clash against Sekhukhune low on confidence following a humiliating 8-1 defeat against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Christmas Eve – Tuesday.

The Bloemfontein-based side looked disjointed against Pirates and conceded seven goals in second-half after the match went into the half-time break at a 1-1 scoreline.

Bahlabane Ba Ntwa have had a challenging start to life in the Premiership after purchasing the top-flight status on Moroka Swallows at the start of the season. They are sitting 12th on the log standings after winning three matches in the league, drawing one and suffering seven defeats in 11 games.

Marumo Gallants have also been without their head coach, Dan Malesela, who has been placed on ‘special leave’ by the club.

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED ON A TWO-MATCH WINNING RUN

On the other hand, Sekhukhune United claimed their second successive win after beating Cape Town City FC 1-0 before the victory against Gallants.

Elsewhere, Stellenbosch FC and SuperSport United played to a 1-1 draw at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville on Saturday afternoon.

Jayden Adams opened the scoring for Stellies in the 17th minute before Tashreeq Morris brought the scoreline to 1-1 on the half-hour mark.

The last game of 2024 for both sides saw Stellenbosch finish the year sitting fourth in the league with 16 points in 10 matches. The Winelands-based side won four games, drew four and lost on four occasions.

Meanwhile, SuperSport are occupying position six on the table with same number of points with Stellenbosch, however, the Western Cape outfit are leading with a superior goal difference.
