‘That is a promise’: Mabasa’s bold statement to Pirates fans
Riding high on confidence after scoring his second hat-trick of the year, Orlando Pirates striker Tshegofatso Mabasa has made a bold promise to the club’s supporters.
Mabasa enjoyed a spectacular Christmas Eve on Tuesday afternoon, scoring a hat-trick as Pirates hammered Marumo Gallants 8-1 at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
The three goals marked his first in the league since the opening match of the season, bringing his overall season tally to seven goals across all competitions, complemented by one assist.
Mabasa’s impressive performance has significantly boosted his position on the Betway Premiership goal-scoring charts. He now trails Mamelodi Sundowns’ Iqraam Rayners by only two goals, with Rayners currently leading the league with six goals.
Notably, this marks Mabasa’s second hat-trick in a calendar year, following his impressive performance in Pirates’ 7-1 victory over Golden Arrows in April.
MABASA PROMISES MORE GOALS AND EXCITING PERFORMANCES IN 2025
As the Soweto giants prepare to face Magesi FC in their final match of 2024 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, Mabasa has promised to continue delivering exciting performances and finding the back of the net consistently in the year 2025.
When a reporter expressed hope for more goals and exciting performances in 2025, Mabasa confidently responded, “That is a promise, definitely.”
He added: “To score a hat-trick as a striker is very special. We just hope that this win [against Gallants] can spur us on to better form for the rest of the season.
“It is an honour and pleasure to be playing with the players that I’m playing with. The amount of support that they give me regardless of who is playing, whether it is myself, Evidence [Makgopa], or even [Boitumelo] Radiopane]. We are happy, and we want to win games for this great football club and take it back to the top.
With their sights firmly set on the league title, Pirates are currently three points behind leaders Sundowns. However, with a game in hand, a victory against Magesi FC this weekend, combined with a Sundowns loss, would see them overtake their rivals at the summit of the log standings.
