Nine wins in a row: Davids’ dominance shines at Simba

SA coach Fadlu Davids extended his impressive reign at Simba SC this weekend, guiding the Tanzanian giants to their ninth consecutive league victory.

Simba defeated Singida Black Stars FC 1-0 at the Liti Stadium on Saturday afternoon, with DR Congo international Fabrice Ngoma scoring the only goal of the match in the 41st minute.

After 15 league outings, Simba is sitting at the summit of the log standings with 40 points, four ahead of defending champions Yanga SC, who have a hand in hand. Davids’ troops have registered 13 victories, one draw and suffered one defeat.

They last lost a game in the Tanzanian Premier League against Yanga in October as they look to end Timu ya Wananchi’s dominance.

RULANI MOKWENA AND CASSIUS MAILULA’S WYDAD AC SUFFER DEFEAT

In Morocco, former Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena and attacker Cassius Mailula’s Wydad AC were hammered 4-1 in the Botola Pro 1. This was on Saturday as they lost against MAS Fes at Stade Larbi Zaouli.

The 23-year-old played the entire match and grabbed an assist. It was Mailula’s fourth assist in his last four Botola Pro League matches, showing his good creative form.

The defeat means Wydad have not won in their last three league matches. The other two matches ended as draws.

Coach Pitso Mosimane’s side, Esteghlal FC, stretched their winless run in the Iran Pro League to four games on Thursday. The Famous Royal Blues drew 0-0 against Chadormalou Ardakan S.C at Shahid Nasiri Stadium. In all matches in all competitions, Esteghlal are unbeaten in eight outings following three wins and five draws.

Former Sekhukhune United winger Elias Mokwana started on the bench as Esperance defeated CS Sfaxien 1-0. This was a Tunisian Ligue Professionnelle 1 tie on Sunday at Stade Taïeb Mhiri. Mokwana played 45 minutes as he was introduced at the start of the second half.

PERCY TAU, KHANYISA MAYO AND NOXOLO SESANE FAIL TO IMPRESS ABROAD

Striker Khanyisa Mayo featured for CR Belouizdad in the league on Friday as they edged Olympique Akbou 1-0 at Stade du 5 Juillet. The former Cape Town City FC star featured for almost the entire match as he played 89 minutes.

Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau played for Al Ahly as they edged El Masry 2-0 on Thursday in the Egyptian Premier League at Borg El Arab Stadium. The Lion of Judah started the match and was subbed off in the 76th minute. After six matches in the league this season, the 30-year-old is yet to score or provide an assist.

Banyana Banyana attacker Noxolo Sesane played the whole match for her side, Eastern Flames, on Friday. Flames suffered a 4-0 defeat against Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Women’s Premier League at Prince Faisal bin Fahad Stadium.
