Papi Zothwane comments on his future as Owen Da Gama arrives

Magesi FC interim coach Papi Zothwane has opened up about the club having a new coach amid the imminent arrival of coach Owen Da Gama.

Da Gama is set to conclude a deal with Magesi, which will see him take over from Clinton Larsen.

The 63-year-old coach – Da Gama, was sitting in the stands when Magesi lost 1-0 to Orlando Pirates at Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday. This publication has been reliably informed that Da Gama is set to start his tenure on Monday, 30 December.

Despite declining to comment on the presence of Da Gama at the stadium, Zothwane says he is looking forward to working with any coach the club appoints on a permanent basis.

“I can’t comment on that for now [Da Gama’s presence] because the management said they are still talking to a coach,” Zothwane told the media.

“Obviously, they have to tell us if the coach is coming. Whichever coach that comes in our team we will definitely work with him.”

WHY PAPI ZOTHWANE IS WILLING TO SERVE MAGESI FC IN ANY CAPACITY

“I am here to serve Magesi football club. As an employee of the team, if they feel that Jacky [Ledwaba] and I have to continue, we will do so. If they also feel there is a need for a change of personnel we will also definitely support that. It’s all about the team and both individuals.”

Magesi remain winless in their last four games in the Betway Premiership. Their last win came in the Carling Knockout Final against Mamelodi Sundowns in Mangaung.

Zothwane feels their players showed a bit of energy against Pirates, but they were just unfortunate not to get a positive result. Their next game now is against TS Galaxy, away from home, on 4 January.
