The position Chiefs should beef up in the January transfer window
Kaizer Chiefs legend Patrick Mayo has pinpointed the area he believes the club needs to strengthen during the upcoming January transfer window.
The PSL January transfer window opens on Wednesday, 1 January 2025, and will close on Tuesday, 28 January 2025.
Ahead of the current Betway Premiership season, Chiefs changed their technical team following the appointment of experienced Tunisian mentor Nasreddine Nabi.
Amakhosi were one of the active sides in the transfer market, as they brought in seven new players. These are, namely, Fiacre Ntwari, Bongani Sam, Bradley Cross, Rushwin Dortley, Inacio Miguel, Gaston Sirino and Njabulo Blom on loan.
Despite the reinforcements, the Soweto giants have been inconsistent in their performances. So far, after 11 matches in all competitions, they have registered four victories and three draws and suffered four defeats. On the league table, they are ninth with 12 points.
At the back, they have been struggling to keep clean sheets, only registering one. In front of goal they have been on and off finding the back of the net 17 times.
PATRICK MAYO SAYS KAIZER CHIEFS SHOULD GET A STRIKER IN THE UPCOMING TRANSFER WINDOW
The former Chiefs striker who became a defender says The Glamour Boys should go back to the market and get a striker.
In the current squad Chiefs have Ranga Chivaviro, Wandile Duba and Ashley Du Preez. However, Duba has been used as a winger, whilst Du Preez is versatile, playing anywhere in attack.
Chivaviro has scored four goals in 10 matches, Duba has found the back of the net two times in 11 games, and Du Preez has netted three goals in 10 outings.
“I think the club should go back in the market and get a new striker,” Mayo told FARPost. “There is not enough depth in that position.
“Anything can happen in football; if one or two forwards get injured, the team will be in trouble. Already, they are struggling with the strikers they have.
“A new addition upfront can change the team’s fortunes. They can improve and end up finishing in a much higher position. Also, the level of competition will increase, and players will be raising their hands with hunger to play.
