AmaZulu FC promote two DStv Diski Challenge players
AmaZulu FC have promoted two DStv Diski Challenge players to their first team, in an effort to create a balanced squad with a blend of experienced veterans and exciting young prospects.
The players elevated to the senior team are Bayanda Thabede & Siphosenkosi Ngubane.
Thabede, a versatile player capable of operating both as a winger and an attacking midfielder, impressed during the Engen Tournament in June.
The former KZN academy star has also consistently showcased his talent for Usuthu’s reserves, finding the back of the net on several occasions under the guidance of different coaches – Reneilwe Letshonyane, Andile Cele, Vusumuzi Vilakazi, and now, Mncedisi Sibiya.
Meanwhile, Ngubane, a promising attacking midfielder has also been training with the first team for quite some time having impressed in the Diski Challenge.
He was named on the bench in the past two games that Usuthu played against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City.
AmaZulu co-coach Vilakazi says when they are looking to strengthen the squad, they should prioritise the development of talent within the club’s youth ranks before they even consider external signings.
WHAT VILAKAZI SAID ABOUT ELEVATING DDC PLAYERS
“Yeah, Diski is our feeder team. As much as we are capable and we are able to buy players from outside, but I think the first priority must be our Diski in terms of looking at the progress there,” said Vilakazi.
“And if there’s players who’ve got the potential and players who can be an asset for the club, why not?
“So, obviously, we’ve identified a few and not only just to identify, even Tebza [Tebogo Mashigo] irrespective of not being here, but from Diski, he even played when we played in Umlazi.
“So, we are looking forward to giving youngsters a chance. And when you look at the team here too, right now, we’re trying to have that balance in terms of youngsters and also experienced players because we dominated a lot with the experienced players, but sometimes you also need those new and fresh energy from these youngsters.
“So, that’s why we’re giving them a chance.”
