‘I don’t know if it’s a curse…’: Chipezeze on Magesi struggles

Magesi FC captain Elvis Chipezeze has expressed his views on the challenges his team has been experiencing since winning the Carling Knockout Cup.

Dikwena Tsa Meetse have not tasted victory since their 2-1 win against Mamelodi Sundowns in last month’s Carling Knockout Cup final.

The Limpopo club has not won in its last five matches, which led to coach Clinton Larsen resigning live on national television more than a week ago.

As a result, Magesi sits at the bottom of the Betway Premiership log standings with six points after playing 10 matches.

‘I FEEL LIKE HISTORY IS REPEATING ITSELF’, SAYS ELVIS CHIPEZEZE

Magesi goalkeeper Chipezeze believes his team is going through a phase, drawing a comparison to their December matches when they were still competing in the SA second tier last season, noting that they faced a similar scenario.

“Well, it’s just a phase. In football, you have the highs and lows. I also remember last season when we were still competing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship when we got to December, we struggled in some games,” said Chipezeze during Magesi’s press conference in Polokwane.

“For me, I feel like maybe history is repeating itself. After the December games, which I don’t know if I could call it a curse or not, when we started our games in January, things began to fall into place.

“So, we just have to make sure that we work even more harder so that we can move out of the position that we are in right now.”

THE CONVERSATION OWEN DA GAMA HAS HAD WITH MAGESI FC PLAYERS

The Zimbabwean international shared the discussion that coach Owen Da Gama, who replaced Larsen, had with the players.

“It’s just basic stuff, you know. Like, we just have to keep working hard, starting with the performance we have been having,” he added.

“We just have to tweak it here and there and try to come out of the hole we are in now because it’s not looking good to finish the year at the bottom. It’s not nice as a footballer.”
