Why Vilakazi and Zwane partnership is defying expectations

Vusumuzi Vilakazi has explained why his co-coaching arrangement with Arthur Zwane at AmaZulu is defying expectations.

The duo was appointed as Usuthu co-coaches in October last year following the sacking of head coach Pablo Franco Martin and his assistant coach, Aitor Van Den Brule.

Martin and Brule were let go from the KwaZulu-Natal outfit following AmaZulu’s three consecutive defeats at the start of the Betway Premiership campaign.

Since Vilakazi and Zwane took over the coaching reins at AmaZulu, the pair have taken charge of eight games across all competitions.

The duo secured four wins in those eight games and lost the other four matches.

WHAT VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI SAID ABOUT WORKING TOGETHER WITH ARTHUR ZWANE

Vilakazi disclosed that his shared philosophy with Zwane is one element that has contributed to rejuvenating AmaZulu’s spirit. With 12 points, the team has moved from the bottom of the league table to 11th place.

He stressed that all their efforts are not for personal gain but aimed at improving the club.

“I think it’s all about the understanding that has to be in the highest order. We are two different people, but when you look at the game, we have similarities in terms of our philosophy with Arthur,” said Vilakazi.

“But my responsibility is to fit into his weaknesses, and his responsibility is to fit into my weaknesses so we can have that balance.

“So far, so good. We are enjoying it, and we are doing very well in terms of sharing the responsibilities. It’s not about us; everything we do is for the betterment of the club, which is AmaZulu.”

AmaZulu’s next league encounter will be a KZN derby on Saturday, 4 January, against Golden Arrows at home. The game will start at 15:30 at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
