Another exit confirmed at Chippa United after Kopo

Just two days after Kwanele Kopo’s departure, another exit at Chippa United has been confirmed. Chippa have terminated the contract of Tanzanian international Gadiel Kamagi, who joined them four months ago.

Kamagi joined the Chilli Boys in August on the back of a positive stint with Cape Town Spurs. After joining Spurs in the second half of the season, he scored two crucial goals and provided two assists in 11 matches.

Chippa offered him a one-year deal, keeping him in the topflight league. However, he struggled to get game time at the Eastern Cape outfit.

The 28-year-old only made four appearances for the club and was on the bench twice as an unused substitute. Three of his appearances came in the league, while one was in the Carling Knockout Cup.

Chippa’s former coach, Kopo, preferred Gadinkame Modise at left back. The 25-year-old has made 10 appearances, nine of which were in the league.

Kamagi’s departure comes after the club announced the exit of Kopo, who refused to sign a new deal. Sources at the club confirmed Kamagi was not part of training on Thursday and Friday.

Kopo, the former SuperSport United youth coach, has been replaced by Thabo September, who was previously the assistant. Mabhuti Khenyeza was brought in as September’s assistant. Khenyeza recently cut ties with Golden Arrows over contractual issues.

Armed with his clearance, Kamagi, who has played for Yanga SC and Simba in Tanzania, is now looking for a new club. Before joining the Chilli Boys, he had been linked with Simba SC, Sekhukhune United, Spurs, and Richards Bay FC.

During his five months at Spurs, he averaged 1.5 interceptions and 1.5 tackles per game, solidifying his reputation as a reliable defender.
