Msimango shares thoughts on Nabi’s plea for ‘players of the level of Chiefs’
Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has addressed comments made by head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who expressed wish to sign “players of the level of Chiefs” in the coming transfer windows.
The Tunisian tactician uttered these words following their 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy in the Betway Premiership match in December.
These remarks were perceived by many as a harsh indictment of the current squad, potentially crushing their morale and belief in the coach’s faith in their abilities.
Asked about what he thought the coach meant with the statement, Msimango said: “I think, to be honest, that question is directed to him per se. As a player, I can only do what I’m employed to do for the club.”
“The people that brought me in this club believe in me as a player and I believe in myself. So, any other comments besides Given’s comments, I think those should be directed to the coach. He can maybe elaborate more on what he meant by that.”
Msimango stated that he remains unaffected by the criticism from fans stemming from the team’s struggles this season.
MSIMANGO – ‘I’VE NEVER LACKED CONFIDENCE’
“I cannot speak for everyone. But self-confidence is nothing that I’ve never lacked as an individual,” he stated.
“I know who I am, I know where I stand with my game. I know where I need to improve on. I’m not perfect, and I stand on that. I speak for Given Msimango right now.”
He pointed out that some critiques are valuable for their improvement, while others are merely destructive and should not be internalised by the players.
“I take it like any other critique I’ve taken ever in my professional footballing career, I take it on my stride, I hear it, I take it in, and I choose what I keep in my mind.
“I choose what I get to work on, and I don’t allow it to influence who I am.”
