‘We didn’t deserve to lose’ – Nabi reflects on defeat to CT City
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has shared his thoughts on what went wrong during their 1-0 defeat against Cape Town City FC on Sunday at the Cape Town Stadium.
The Soweto giants suffered their fourth defeat of the Betway Premiership season in 11 matches, with Darwin Gonzalez scoring the match’s only goal in the second half.
The defeat leaves Chiefs languishing in seventh place, a daunting 15 points adrift of league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Speaking after the match, coach Nabi feels the result was not a true reflection of the match, given the opportunities they created.
“We feel that it’s not a game that we deserve to lose. Unfortunately, that’s football because we feel that we had control of the game, most of the time we were high,” he said.
WHY AMAKHOSI COACH FEELS THEY DON’T DESERVE THE DEFEAT AGAINST CAPE TOWN CITY
“We were pressing well. We were creating opportunities, but we had a lack of good decisions, especially in the last third and especially in the first half. Sometimes, we took extra touches instead of playing early. Sometimes, playing too early instead of waiting.
“It’s been an issue that when we fail to score, we have to create a lot of opportunities. But this is football. The only thing we can do is go back and work.”
NASREDDINE NABI CAN’T PUT THE BLAME ON HIS DEFENCE FOR CONCEDING ANOTHER GOAL
Nabi was also asked about the defence of his side after yet again conceding a goal. Chiefs have only managed to keep three clean sheets under Nabi’s tenure so far.
“I don’t think that there is a need to talk about the defence because even the goal at the beginning was our own throw-in. It’s like a set piece,” he explained.
“Our defenders have to go up. Probably we need to work better on the rest defence and everything after the throw-in. It’s a counter-attack which can happen, and the opportunities that we got had we managed to score one or two goals, we would not be talking about the defenders right now.”
