Why Sundowns loanee Phewa is yet to feature for AmaZulu FC
Football agent Mike Makaab has explained why Mamelodi Sundowns loanee Luvuyo Phewa is yet to feature for AmaZulu FC.
The attacking midfielder joined AmaZulu at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season on a season-long loan from Sundowns.
Phewa moved to Usuthu after he appeared to not be on the plans of Sundowns at the start of the current campaign under the then-head coach Rulani Mokwena.
The 25-year-old was sent out on loan alongside his teammates such as Thabang Sibanyoni, Siyanda Msani, Sipho Mbule, Sifiso Ngobeni, Richardo Goss, Etiosa Ighodaro, Ismail Watenga, and Matias Esquivel.
In the previous two seasons, Phewa was on loan at Cape Town Spurs in the Motsepe Foundation Championship in the 2022/23 season. He was with CT Spurs the following season in the top-flight before being relegated the same campaign.
Last season, the former SA’s junior international featured in 19 appearances across all competitions for CT Spurs, scored one goal and provided three assists.
After the Urban Warriors got relegated at the end of last season, Phewa completed another loan move to AmaZulu with a hope reviving his career.
LUVUYO PHEWA MISSING IN ACTION FOR AMAZULU DUE TO INJURY
Phewa is yet to kick the ball in any competive matches for the KZN-based side after sustaining a serious injury setback according his agent Mike Makaab.
In an interview with FARPost, the experienced agent – Makaab revealed that Phewa may need extra assistance to recover from injury.
“Luvuyo Phewa has been unfortunate at AmaZulu, that’s why he’s yet to play for the team since joining them in the off-season,” Makaab said.
“I think we are going to have to assist Luvuyo Phewa with his injury to fast track his return to full fitness because he’s an exceptional talent that can contribute a lot to AmaZulu.”
Phewa will be looking to make a return in the second round of the season to help AmaZulu climb up the league table. The Sandile Zungu-owned team is currently sitting 12th on the log with 13 points after 11 matches.
