Chiefs’ 55th birthday celebrations culminate in a win

The afterglow of Kaizer Chiefs’ 55th birthday celebrations continued to shine brightly on Wednesday evening as Amakhosi secured a crucial victory over Stellenbosch FC in a league tie at FNB Stadium in Soweto.

Having marked the anniversary of their founding in Phefeni, Orlando West in Soweto on Tuesday, the club entered the Betway Premiership match with an added spring in their step, culminating in a triumphant performance.

Chairman of Chiefs, Dr. Kaizer Motaung, would undoubtedly be proud of his troops’ performance tonight. The Soweto giants displayed a dominant brand of attacking football from the first whistle, creating numerous scoring opportunities and keeping the opposition under constant pressure.

This aggressive approach, coupled with a resolute defensive display, resulted in only their third clean sheet of the season – a significant achievement given their recent struggles to maintain a solid backline.

Nasreddine Nabi’s men demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming an early deficit to secure their fifth league victory of the season. The hard-fought 2-1 win saw Amakhosi jump to fifth position in the log after 12 matches.

The atmosphere at the iconic stadium was electric, with the Amakhosi faithful in full voice, generating a significant level of noise and encouragement.

Duba completed his brace in the 58th minute, expertly beating the offside trap and slotting the ball past Stellenbosch goalkeeper Sage Stephens after receiving a through ball from Mfundo Vilakazi.

The Soweto giants held on to their lead despite facing late pressure from Stellenbosch.

Goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma made several crucial saves to preserve the victory. Duba was subsequently named Man of the Match for his impressive performance.
