Chiefs table tempting offer for Polokwane City’s Oswin Appollis
Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their pursuit of Oswin Appollis, submitting a tempting offer to Polokwane City FC for the highly-rated attacker.
Amakhosi attempted to acquire the Bafana Bafana star during the previous transfer window. However, they faced stiff resistance from PLK City, who were determined to retain their key players for the 2024/25 campaign.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, the 23-year-old has been impressive for the Betway Premiership club. He has also excelled in the senior national team.
The Soweto giants have returned with a renewed bid, eager to bolster their squad with the former SuperSport United and Pretoria Callies attacker. The fresh offer was reportedly sent this week to Polokwane City. Sources close to the player suggest that Appollis is keen on taking the next step in his career and is open to a move to the Soweto giants.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi is reportedly a strong admirer of Appollis’s abilities and views him as a crucial addition to his squad. The Tunisian tactician is eager to strengthen his attacking options and believes Appollis possesses the quality and potential to make a significant impact at Naturena.
HOW POLOKWANE CITY FC COACH PHUTI MOHAFE FEELS ABOUT OSWIN APPOLLIS LINKS
Nabi, whose philosophy centres around utilising traditional, speedy wingers, has been forced to deploy Wandile Duba on the flank. The 20-year-old, a natural centre forward, has been filling in as a makeshift winger.
Pule Mmodi has hardly featured for Nabi, while in the few appearances he has made, he has failed to impress. Christian Saile has also struggled to establish a regular place. On the other hand, Tebogo Potsane has battled with injury. On that background, Appollis would be a massive addition.
However, Polokwane City coach Phuti Mohafe knows the potential impact of losing Appollis on their own ambitions. He has dismissed any links as just rumours.
“You know, with this issue of our players being linked with other teams, let it be their own agenda,” said a visibly irritated Mohafe. “But I think we shouldn’t be engaging with it anymore because it’s just rumours that are flying around. I would rather not comment further about this.”
The transfer window is open for the next three weeks, and it remains to be seen whether Appollis will end up at Naturena.
