Casric Stars cut ties with ex-Chiefs midfielder Thibedi
The relationship between Casric Stars and Given Thibedi has come to an abrupt end as FARPost can confirm that the club has released the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder.
The Motsepe Foundation Championship side has been making adjustments to their squad for the second round of the 2024/25 season.
A few weeks ago, Casric parted ways with head coach Sundra Govinder on mutual consent. Govinder joined Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants shortly after leaving his coaching job at Stars.
The former Chiefs development coach is serving as the assistant coach to Dan Malesela at Gallants. Meanwhile, Bucs Mthombeni left his CEO job at Casric to replace Govinder as the head coach of the club.
Casric Stars have also let go of one of their defenders, Mlungisi Mkhwanazi, who struggled to break into the starting line-up. Mkhwanazi spent just six months at the club having signed at the start of the current campaign.
The former Baroka FC centre-back managed to register only two matches under his name since his arrival at Casric.
CASRIC STARS TERMINATE GIVEN THIBEDI’S CONTRACT
In a move to reshuffle the squad, the Mpumalanga-based side has terminated Given Thibedi contract.
The central-midfielder was offered a new one-year contract in July 2024, however he has been let go halfway into the deal.
Thibedi also struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at Casric in the second-tier, playing just two matches in the league.
‘Manando’ as he’s affectionately known, spent three seasons with Casric, having joined the team in 2022 on a free transfer.
“Casric Stars decided to terminate Given Thibedi’s contract because when you check, his contribution to the team is very minimal,” a source told FARPost.
“The team offered him a new contract at the start of the season with the hope that he would play regularly and help them fight promotion, but it didn’t work out.”
