Casric Stars part ways with Mlungisi Mkhwanazi
Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars has parted ways with defender Mlungisi Mkhwanazi, who joined the club at the start of the 2024/25 season, FARPost has been informed.
Casric Stars are currently making changes to their squad to make a serious push for promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.
The Mpumalanga-based side has had a promising start to the season in the second-tier league, and they are currently within touching distance of winning the Championship title.
In the current campaign, Casric are occupying the sixth position of the log standings with 21 points after 14 matches. They are seven points away from log-leaders Durban City FC, who are on 28 points.
Despite being amongst the contenders for gaining promotion, Casric Stars lost their coach, Sundra Govinder, who has since joined Marumo Gallants. Govinder left Casric and cited health reasons for his departure. However, he joined Gallants as an assistant coach.
Following Govinder’s exit from Casric Stars, Bucs Mthombeni stepped down from his role as the club’s CEO to take over the coaching position.
WHY DID CASRIC STARS AND MLUNGISI MKHWANAZI PART WAYS?
With the transfer window currently open, Casric and Mlungisi Mkhwanazi have parted ways as the defender struggled for game-time.
The former Baroka FC centre-back only managed to play two matches in the second-tier, which resulted in his exit from the team.
Mkhwanazi has played for overseas clubs such as Odra Bytom, Tampereen Ilves-Kissat and IFK Marieham. Locally, he played for Cape Town All Stars and Baroka before joining Casric.
“Mlungisi Mkhwanazi and Casric Stars have parted ways because of his struggles with game-time. You know it’s very difficult to guarantee any player game-time,” a source said.
“He has left the club, and he’s now free to join any team of his choice on a free transfer. I mean, the fact that he only played two games in the league at Casric, that was concerning for him.”
