How Gavin Hunt is managing Grobler’s fitness and game-time
SuperSport United veteran striker Bradley Grobler has revealed how coach Gavin Hunt is managing his fitness and game-time to ensure he remains a key contributor for the club.
At 36, Grobler is one of the most senior players in the PSL and the oldest member of the SuperSport squad. Despite his age, he remains a vital leader and a key contributor to the team’s success season after season.
However, the talented striker’s career has been plagued by injuries, which have unfortunately sidelined him for significant periods.
The former Bafana Bafana international sustained a knee injury just after the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership and recently recovered. So far this season, he has only featured in six matches across all competitions. He has found the back of the net two times and grabbed an assist.
GAVIN HUNT PRIORITISES FITNESS AND GAME-TIME FOR GROBLER
Grobler emphasised that coach Hunt has granted him flexibility in managing his fitness and game-time. The experienced striker revealed that, under Hunt’s guidance, he can skip certain training sessions and miss selected matches without facing any repercussions.
This tailored approach allows Grobler to prioritize his recovery and ensure he remains in peak condition for crucial matches.
“There’s no much conversation into it [Hunt managing his fitness and game-time]. Coach Gavin is more experienced, and he’s been here for a long time,” Grobler told FARPost.
“He understands the position that I’m in [in terms of age and fitness]. It is not a communication thing. There are certain days where I will not train or play and he’s not going to ask me why.
“I think he’s good at that. He knows how to manage players, and we’ve seen that over the years. So between him and I, it’s a day-by-day thing, a season-by-season thing.
“On my side all I can do is to make sure I stay fit always. Well, injuries can happen to anyone. Whenever I’m needed to help the team, I should be able to go into the field and give my best.”
