Takesure Chinyama: ‘Benni McCarthy gave me the zeal…’
Ex-Orlando Pirates striker Takesure Chinyama has opened up on how Benni McCarthy gave him the zeal to take the high road in football.
Last year in January, Chinyama landed a coaching gig in Poland. He has been coaching at KS Bibiczanka as one of the youth academy coaches.
Simply put, Chinyama has been reaping the rewards of his hard work having carved a niche in the European nation during his days as a player. He mainly played for Legia Warszawa.
In the Betway Premiership, he was decent, then under Roger De Sá who was Pirates’ head coach during the 2012/13 season.
Notably Chinyama rubbed shoulders with the likes of Benni McCarthy who were his teammates.
And as the 44-year-old Zimbabwean makes strides in coaching, he has revealed what motivated him.
Chinyama is now a UEFA B license holder, which he attained late last year, being the only African in a class of 34 students.
WHAT THE EX-PIRATES STRIKER TAKESURE CHINYAMA SAID ABOUT BENNI MCCARTHY
In an interview with FARPost. Chinyama said: “It has been an exciting journey so far. I’m happy with what I have achieved.
“I’ll be honest with myself that I am not yet there but my knowledge has been enhanced. It’s still a process but I am happy that so far, I have the UEFA license.
“For starters, not so many coaches have it. And I am hoping it will be very useful to be as a rising coach.
“The decision to move into coaching was passion driven but there are other factors that made me believe that I can do it.
“Seeing Benni McCarthy rise the way he did made me believe. Benni McCarthy gave me the zeal.
“And to think that he rose up to a level of reaching Manchester United. It’s so inspiring.
“So, then I asked myself, why not me? So, after everything the goal is to rise and be top a coach but we have to trust the process and being patient.”
