Da Gama highlights concerns after Magesi loss

Magesi FC head coach Owen Da Gama has highlighted the issues his team needs to address after their 1-0 loss to AmaZulu FC on Saturday.

Da Gama started his Magesi tenure with a loss to Usuthu in a Betway Premiership clash at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. Bongani Zungu‘s 53rd-minute goal sealed a victory for the KwaZulu-Natal outfit on the road.

The 63-year-old coach, Da Gama, was officially announced as Dikwena Tsa Meetse’s new coach a fortnight ago following the resignation of Clinton Larsen live on national television in December last year.

With the disappointing result against AmaZulu, Magesi remains at the bottom of the log standings with seven points from 12 outings.

OWEN DA GAMA ON WHAT MAGESI FC NEED TO DO MOVING FORWARD

Da Gama mentioned that his team requires a seasoned striker to ease the burden on their forward, Wonderboy Makhubu.

The well-travelled coach reckons that his troops need to improve their failure to convert clear-cut chances, decision-making on the ball, and box entries.

He further stated that they are diligently working to improve Gift Motupa and Kgaogelo Sekgota to create more alternatives in their offensive play.

“I think we need another experienced striker upfront just to take the pressure off Makhubu,” said the ‘Rubberdol’, as he is popularly known.

“There’s too much pressure on the boy, and I think Gift Motupa is getting there, but he’s not quite there yet. You can understand how long Gift has been out of the game, and he’s a quality player. If we could get Gift right and Sekgota right, I think we could succeed. They are pushing hard, and that’s why they are in the matchday squad.

“The management is busy looking for players to strengthen the team, but I can’t speak much about that. We are working on quite a few aspects of signings, and we are looking at them.”

Da Gama continued: “But you have to understand that we can’t bring in a player that we have to coach for six months and, at the end of the season, is ready to play. We need players who can come in and hit the ground running. We need players who are ready to play and add value to the team; it’s as simple as that.”
