Sundowns entertain offers for Shalulile, new striker targeted

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly entertaining offers for Namibian forward Peter Shalulile as they actively pursue new striker options for the January transfer window. Shalulile is reportedly seeking a move away from Chloorkop as the club works behind the scenes to bolster its attacking department.

Although his contract runs until June 2025 with an option for a further two years, indications are that the club is in discussions with interested parties, potentially paving the way for the Namibia international’s departure. The 31-year-old’s impact has diminished this season, making only 11 starts in 24 matches across all competitions. He has also made eight substitute appearances, scoring four goals.

Shalulile joined Sundowns from Highlands Park at the start of the 2020/21 season and has been a prolific scorer for the club, netting 95 goals in 180 starts and providing 25 assists. On Saturday, Shalulile came to the rescue for Sundowns as they came from behind to beat AS Maniema Union 2-1 in the CAF Champions League.

With the club reportedly targeting a new striker to reinforce their frontline under newly appointed coach Miguel Cardoso, it appears Shalulile has accepted that it’s time for a new challenge after serving the club with distinction.

WHERE’S THE INTEREST FROM PETER SHALULILE COMING FROM

There has been strong interest in the talented forward from North Africa and the Middle East. A Saudi Arabia club has reportedly been in talks with the club. Sundowns aims to acquire a highly competitive forward under newly appointed coach Miguel Cardoso.

This move is intended to provide healthy competition for Iqraam Rayners, who has enjoyed a strong start with Sundowns. Since joining from Stellenbosch during the preseason, Rayners has featured in 17 matches, scoring an impressive 13 goals and establishing himself as the club’s leading scorer.

Since taking over at Sundowns, Cardoso has overseen five games. The club has won four of those with 1-0 scorelines, losing the fifth to Raja Casablanca 1-0.
