Mayo opens up on life in Algeria & Bafana stance
CR Belouizdad striker Khanyisa Mayo has opened up on life in Algeria and his stance on Bafana Bafana following his impressive displays. Mayo joined Belouizdad in August 2024 from Betway Premiership side Cape Town City FC at an undisclosed fee.
Since arriving at the Algerian club, the 26-year-old footballer has played 17 matches for Belouizdad in all competitions. In addition, he has found the back of the net on three occasions.
Through his captivating performances, Mayo has earned the trust of his mentor, Abdelkader Amrani, who enjoys utilising the South African-born talent in various roles.
WHAT HELPED KHANYISA MAYO TO SETTLE AT CR BELOUIZDAD
Mayo mentioned that his coaches and teammates significantly contributed to his adaptation to the Algerian environment and guided him in understanding the team’s style of play.
He cited this as the challenge he sought as a professional footballer, and he relishes every moment.
“Well, it took me a couple of months to settle in, but I have managed to find my feet because of the coaches and the players. They helped me adapt more quickly to the league and adjust to the team’s style of play,” said Mayo.
“For me, it has been a journey that I’m enjoying. As a footballer, you have to look for moments like this in order to enjoy your football each time you get an opportunity to play.”
Meanwhile, Mayo stated he is working tirelessly to regain his place on the national team and fly the South African flag high once again.
“I think with the Bafana call-up, I have been putting myself out there, raising my hand, knocking on the door once again, you know, and asking questions to be in the team,” he added.
“But we will see what happens because it’s a long journey. The season is still long, and with God’s will, everything will go fine according to my plan.”
