Marumo Gallants issue update on transfer ban

Betway Premiership side Marumo Gallants have issued an update on their FIFA transfer ban with two weeks remaining before the deadline day.

Gallants were slapped with a ban over payment issues with former Orlando Pirates and Moroka Swallows striker Mwape Musonda.

Despite Musonda having not played for them, the club was implicated after purchasing the status from Swallows. Musonda spent two years with ‘The Dube Birds’ before his contract was prematurely terminated.

The Zambian striker escalated the matter to FIFA, which responded by imposing a transfer ban on Marumo Gallants. This ban prohibits the club from registering new players until the outstanding debt to the striker is settled.

MARUMO GALLANTS CONFIRM THAT THE TRANSFER BAN HAS BEEN LIFTED BY FIFA

The club has since confirmed to this publication that they received a correspondent from FIFA on Monday clearing them to register new players.

“I can confirm that yesterday we got a communication from FIFA that the ban has been lifted,” club spokesperson Sello Nduna told FARPost.

“As you would recall, this whole thing started during the Moroka Swallows era. So now that we took over the Swallows status, it had to come over to us, and arrangements had to be made so that we resolve this. Unfortunately, now that we have officially taken the status of Swallows, arrangements have been made for the payments of the amount.”

BETWAY PREMIERSHIP SIDE ASSESSING NEW PLAYERS TO REINFORCE THEIR SQUAD

“We have a couple of players coming from across Africa that we are looking at. The players are goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and strikers.

“So we are also looking at those and being informed by the number of foreign spots that we will be having. So I can confirm that there are a couple of players that have been training with us for a week and a half now,” he added.

Nduna couldn’t confirm if the club will be releasing any player during the current transfer window period.

“At this stage, no one has been confirmed to be leaving, but we are looking at reinforcing our squad, especially now that we find ourselves under the pressure we are in as we go to the second round of the league.”

Gallants are set to register striker Sede Junior Dion and defender Yanga Mjoli, who will join on loan from AmaZulu FC.
