Sekhukhune show former top Pirates administrator the exit door
Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United has shown the exit door to former Orlando Pirates administrator Floyd Mbele, FARPost has learnt.
Mbele joined Sekhukhune barely a month after resigning as the administration manager of Pirates in April 2023.
However, the veteran administrator, who gained prominence at the South African Students Sports Union [SASSU] before making the big career jump to Pirates, was reportedly dismissed from Babina Noko.
According to sources, Mbele’s departure stemmed from alleged clashes with coaches and staff members at Sekhukhune.
It is also understood that the club’s decision to part ways with Mbele was driven by concerns about the well-being of the entire club’s staff, as he was reportedly difficult to work with.
“Floyd Mbele has been fired from Sekhukhune after having a fallout with the club’s top management,” said the informant. “One of the key reasons for his termination was his challenges in working with the coaches and other staff members.
“The club decided to part ways with him to ensure the well-being of everyone involved, as he was almost impossible to work with. In fact, he was fired a while back.
FLOYD MBELE DEPARTURE LINKED TO MOKWANA DEAL
Mbele’s departure is also linked to the ongoing dispute surrounding the transfer of Elias Mokwana to North African giants Esperance. As reported by FARPost, Sekhukhune are still owed R7.5 million from this transfer. This outstanding debt has reportedly created tension between Mbele and the club’s management.
FIFA has intervened in the matter, issuing an order to Esperance to pay Sekhukhune United within 45 days of receiving the notification on December 16, 2024.
As per reports, Mbele played a pivotal role in thwarting Kaizer Chiefs’ pursuit of Mokwana, a move that continues to rankle Amakhosi supporters.
Furthermore, Mbele’s involvement in Mokwana’s subsequent transfer to Esperance raised eyebrows, as he accompanied the player to Tunisia instead of the player’s agent.
