The PSL have announced the winners of the Betway Premiership monthly awards for November and December, with Mamelodi Sundowns claiming two of the accolades, while a Kaizer Chiefs star also received recognition.
Sundowns dominated the honours, with striker Iqraam Rayners and coach Miguel Cardoso claiming the Player and Coach of the Month awards, respectively. Chiefs star Mduduzi Shabalala walked away with the Goal of the Month accolade.
The three winners, confirmed on Tuesday, were selected by PSL-accredited football journalists and broadcasters, who served as the judging panel for the awards.
Bafana Bafana international Rayners was crowned the Betway Premiership Player of the Month for November and December, narrowly beating out stiff competition from Orlando Pirates star Relebohile Mofokeng and Hendrick Ekstein of AmaZulu FC to claim the award.
PSL MONTHLY AWARDS: RAYNERS, CARDOSO, SHABALALA SHINE
Rayners enjoyed a prolific period, netting three goals in five league matches during the two months. Notably, he scored a total of eight goals across all competitions.
On the other hand, Rayners’ new coach at Sundowns, Cardoso, has enjoyed a successful start to his tenure, earning the Betway Premiership Coach of the Month award. Under his guidance, The Tshwane giants secured three victories in the league against Stellenbosch FC, AmaZulu FC, and Richards Bay FC, collecting nine points while maintaining an impressive defensive record with no goals conceded.
The Goal of the Month award went to Amakhosi midfielder Mdu Shabalala for his stunning solo effort against Chippa United on December 29th at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The youngster beat several defenders before finding the back of the net to seal the win for the Soweto giants.
Shabalala’s spectacular strike beat out strong competition from Pirates’ Thalente Mbatha’s goal against Marumo Gallants and Mofokeng’s goal against Magesi FC.
