Upington City sign two Pirates players and Thato Mokeke

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Upington City FC have announced the signing of two Orlando Pirates rising stars as well as veteran midfielder Thato Mokeke.

Former SuperSport United and Cape Town City FC midfielder Mokeke joins Upington City after a few months out of action.

Mokeke last played for Cape Town Spurs while they were still in the Betway Premiership before their relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

He had joined the club after parting ways with Cape Town City. During his five-year stay at The Citizens, Mokeke featured in 171 games in all competitions.

Northern Cape-based side Upington confirmed through their social media pages on Thursday that they have acquired the services of Mokeke.

“Join us as we welcome our newest Citizen. Thato Mokeke joins as a free agent,” reads the club statement.

“Thato Mokeke completed his first session with Bafana Ba Gucci today [Thursday]. He is ready for a new chapter and new goals.”

ORLANDO PIRATES YOUNGSTERS JABULANI MOKONE AND SETH GREEN

The club also revealed that Orlando Pirates DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] players Jabulani Mokone and Seth Green have joined the club on loan. The two youngsters will be part of the side until the end of the current season.

“Jabulani Mokone joins on loan from Orlando Pirates DDC. Jabulani Mokone completed his first session with Bafana Ba Gucci today.  He is ready to sharpen his skill set. Seth Green joins on loan from Orlando Pirates DDC. Seth Green completed his first session with Bafana Ba Gucci today. He is ready to unleash his potential.”

Meanwhile, despite a positive start to the season, Upington City finds themselves at position 12 on the log with 18 points. They are 13 points below Durban City, who are currently number one.
