Chiefs & SuperSport finalise swap deal involving Saile and Morris

Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United are on the verge of finalising a swap deal involving winger Christian Saile and striker Tashreeq Morris. Chiefs are keen to offload Saile to free up a valuable foreign spot in their squad.

The DR Congo international, who joined Amakhosi two years ago from Zambian side Nchanga Rangers, has struggled for consistent game time under coach Nasreddine Nabi, making only two starts and appearing as a substitute in four matches this season.

Enter Tashreeq Morris. The 30-year-old striker, who found himself without a club after leaving Sekhukhune United, was offered a lifeline by SuperSport in October when they were facing a striker crisis due to Bradley Grobler’s long-term injury.

Nabi is an admirer of the talented forward. He sees Morris as a high-pressing forward who thrives off the ball. His runs and good positioning often distract defenders, creating space for his teammates.

The former Ajax Cape Town forward is also good at holding up play effectively, contributing significantly to the team’s overall work rate. His physical attributes, including power and aerial prowess, make him a formidable presence on the field.

Morris, a former Cape Town City FC player, is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days and could join his new Chiefs teammates as early as next week, pending a successful medical. However, he will be unavailable for selection in the next two matches. This is due to a red card received in his final game for SuperSport.

HOW SUPERSPORT UNITED HAVE PAVED WAY FOR CHRISTIAN SAILE’S ARRIVAL

The Tshwane side has already moved one of the international players to clear up their foreign player quota. Matsatsantsa have five foreigners Eric Mbangossoum from Chad, Ethiopian Abubaker Nasir, Samir Nurkovic from Serbia and the Zimbabwean duo of Terrence Dzvukamanja and Nokutenda Mangezi.

However, Mangezi is on his way to Pretoria Callies on loan. This makes one foreign space available for Saile to be registered. This swap deal comes at a crucial time for Chiefs, who narrowly lost 1-0 to Golden Arrows in their last outing. This highlights their need for a more potent attacking threat.

Coach Nabi has acknowledged that his current striking options, Ranga Chivaviro and Ashley du Preez, require additional support. While Chippa United were initially considered the frontrunners to secure Saile’s services, SuperSport have emerged as the preferred destination for the winger. This is due to the Morris element.
