CT City edge Richards Bay, Appollis’ strike sink SuperSport

Cape Town City FC came back from a goal down to edge Richards Bay FC 2-1 in the Betway Premiership, while Oswin Appollis netted a solitary strike as Polokwane City beat SuperSport United on Friday night.

Amadou Soukouna scored one goal in each half for CT City while Yanela Mbuthuma was on the scoresheet for Richards Bay.

Last weekend, CT City suffered a 1-0 defeat against Marumo Gallants in their last league match at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in Bloemfontein.

Before losing against Gallants, The Citizens were on a two-match unbeaten run after collecting maximum points against the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates.

CT City hit the ground running after appointing Muhsin ErtuÄŸral as the head coach for the remainder of the season to replace Eric Tinkler who has been fired.

In a match against Richards, Cape Town City conceded early in the first half after Yanela Mbuthuma found the back of the net in the eighth minute for the KZN-based side.

The Natal Rich Boys dominated the early exchanges of the match, creating most of the scoring chances, however, they were wasteful in the final third.

With Richards Bay failing to capitalise on their chances to extend their lead, ErtuÄŸral’s troops scored the equalising goal through Amadou Soukouna in the 41st minute.

The match went into the half-time break with the scoreline at 1-1, with both sides having it all to do in the second half. In the second stanza, Cape Town City found the second goal through Soukouna, who completed his brace to give his side all three points.

Elsewhere, SuperSport United suffered their second successive loss. They lost 1-0 against Polokwane City at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville.

In their previous match, SuperSport dropped points against another Limpopo-based outfit, Sekhukhune United. Babina Noko beat Matsatsantsa 3-0 at Lucas Moripe Stadium last Sunday, thanks to a hattrick by Andy Boyeli.

Rise and Shine added to SuperSport’s woes after the talented winger Oswin Appollis scored a solitary goal. The loss against Polokwane City left SuperSport sitting 10th on the log standings with 16 points after 14 games.
