Former Sundowns and Pirates star calls time on illustrious career

After a stellar career spanning for over 15 years, former Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates star Aubrey Ngoma has bid farewell to the beautiful game, calling time on his illustrious career.

The attacker known for his skill and pace on the pitch has decided to bring an end to his career after almost two seasons without a team.

Ngoma has been without a club after parting ways with SuperSport United at the end of the 2022/23 Betway Premiership season.

Before playing for SuperSport, the left-footed winger had stints at teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Cape Town City FC, Pirates, and AmaTuks.

Ngoma’s best spell was at CT City, where he played a century of games. He scored 18 goals and provided 24 assists. His best performances at The Citizens earned him a high-profile move to Masandawana. However, he struggled to replicate the same form.

At Sundowns, Ngoma played only 14 matches across all competitions, where he was mostly used as a second-half substitute. The former Bafana Bafana international left The Brazilians without scoring or contributing any assists.

AUBREY NGOMA MAKES ANNOUNCEMENT ON HIS RETIREMENT

Ngoma joined SuperSport after struggling for game-time at Sundowns; however, the move to SuperSport also proved unsuccessful after scoring only one goal in 29 matches.

The 35-year-old announced his retirement on Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube on Metro FM on Thursday night

“I’m done playing football, I’ve retired, and I’m that person you would never read much about. The only time you read about me is when I’m performing or joined another team. Besides that, I’m a very quiet person, but I knew you’d call me so that I can announce it here officially,” Ngoma said.

“I lost the drive and the hunger to be on the field as a player; I’ve developed the love to coach juniors; that’s where I am now.

“The highest moments of my career would be getting called up for Bafana Bafana. Another one would be me promoting the University of Pretoria to the Premiership and being nominated as [PSL] Midfielder of the Season amongst good players, which at that time was Hlompho Kekana and Thabang Monare.”
