Magesi FC closing in on Thabang Sibanyoni
Magesi FC are closing in on Mamelodi Sundowns striker Thabang Sibanyoni, who recently parted ways with Richards Bay FC.
Mamelodi Sundowns triggered the option to extend Sibanyoni’s contract at the end of last season and subsequently loaned him to Richards Bay FC.
This came after Sibanyoni had a successful stint with the University of Pretoria in the Motsepe Foundation Championship, where he helped them reach the promotion playoffs.
However, after the KZN team struggled to find the net in the first half of the season, Betway Premiership side Richards Bay released Sibanyoni.
Sibanyoni, a proven goal-scorer in the lower divisions, has attracted interest from clubs, including Marumo Gallants, Pretoria University and SuperSport United. But, Magesi appear to be frontrunners for his signature.
Newly appointed Magesi FC head coach Owen Da Gama has publicly stated the need for an experienced forward to alleviate pressure on current striker Wonderboy Makhubu, who has struggled for consistency this season. Magesi has only scored four goals in 12 games.
Sibanyoni is seen as a potential game-changer for Magesi as they fight to avoid relegation. The club is reportedly pursuing a loan deal for the 29-year-old, and Sundowns are open to the possibility.
Talks are reportedly at an advanced stage regarding the move.
WHAT THABANG SIBANYONI’S REPRESENTATIVE SAID ABOUT THE MAGESI LINKS
When contacted for comment, Sibanyoni’s representative, Themba Shabalala, said they were still evaluating their options.
“We’re carefully evaluating all the options for Thabang Sibanyoni. Our priority is to find an environment where he can fit in perfectly and showcase his talent. We want to ensure the best possible situation for his career.”
Sibanyoni’s impressive performances for AmaTuks in the lower divisions have made him a highly sought-after player. He was a member of the Sekhukhune United squad that achieved promotion to the top flight.
Sibanyoni, who featured for Bafana Bafana in the 2024 COSAFA Cup, previously had a loan spell at SuperSport United but was hampered by injuries.
