Durban City FC bolster attack with signing from Upington City FC

Durban City FC have bolstered their attack with the signing from the Motsepe Foundation championship rivals Upington City FC.

The Durban-based side is actively strengthening its team to increase its chances of promotion to the Betway Premiership next season.

They were relegated to the second-tier in June 2023 when they were still known as Maritzburg United before they rebranded to Durban City and moved to Chatsworth.

DURBAN CITY SIGN GHANAIAN STRIKER

It is understood they have secured the services of striker Victor Bakah who was with Upington since the start of the 2023/24 season.

The club hopes the Ghanaian forward will bolster its attack and contribute goals in the second round as they aim to solidify their position at the summit of the table

The 28-year-old is one of the few signings  the Farook Khadodia-owned club has made in the January transfer window.

Bakah has previously played for Royal Eagles [now Royal AM], Real Kings, Richards Bay, Uthongathi and Moroka Swallows.

OTHER SIGNINGS FOR DURBAN CITY

Seeking to further reinforce their attacking options, City are reportedly assessing AmaZulu FC striker Senzo ‘Mbhobho’ Ndlovu, who has struggled for playing time since his move from Sinenkani FC in the ABC Motsepe League.

While a deal between Durban City and AmaZulu FC for striker Senzo ‘Mbhobho’ Ndlovu has yet to be finalized, the potential move could offer the 28-year-old a valuable opportunity to prove himself and increase his chances of securing a regular starting position at his parent club upon his return next season.

Durban City have also signed Usuthu duo Olwethu Mzimela and Siyanda Hlangabeza on loan until the end of the season.

Having risen through the ranks at AmaZulu FC, Mzimela and Hlangabeza are now ready for a new chapter with Durban City.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper, Mzimela was promoted to the senior team in the 2019/20 season after serving the reserves side with distinction in the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC].

Meanwhile, Hlangabeza was elevated to the senior team at the start of the 2023/24 season. This is his second campaign with the Durban-based side.
