Former Swallows and Baroka striker sign for PSL side
FARPost has it on good authority that former Moroka Swallows and Baroka FC striker Naeem Amoojee has signed for Motsepe Foundation Championship side Leruma United.
This publication can reveal that the deal was finalised on Thursday, 16 January 2025, as the club looks to strengthen its squad in order to survive the chop.
The talented forward, who also turned out for Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM] was last in the books of Gauteng ABC Motsepe League outfit African All Stars, which is Sekhukhune United‘s feeder club.
Prior to joining African All Stars, Amoojee had been banging goals for fun in the SAFA Johannesburg Regional League for Lesco FC, having cut ties with Swallows in July 2023.
At Lesco, he scored 20 goals in 14 appearances across all competitions, showing that experience can never be bought.
NAEEM AMOOJEE EXPECTED TO HELP LERUMA UNITED TO SURVIVE THE RELEGATION ZONE
Given the 28-year-old’s experience in the SA football top flight and the National First Division, he is expected to add value to Leruma’s striking options and help the side climb up the log standings, with relegation looming in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
This is Leruma’s first season in the SA second tier after they bought Marumo Gallants’ status, who returned to the Betway Premiership following their successful deal in purchasing Swallows’ status.
As things stand, Leruma are languishing at the basement of the league table with 10 points from 15 outings. They are just three points behind the 14th-placed Cape Town Spurs.
However, all is not lost, as the team can still turn the tables around, with 15 games left to play before the 2024/25 campaign could come to an end.
Leruma’s next league assignment will be against JDR away from home this afternoon. The game is set to start at 15:30 at Soshanguve Giant Stadium.
