Jayden Adams pens three-and-a-half year deal with Mamelodi Sundowns
Mamelodi Sundowns have strengthened their midfield with the signing of highly-rated midfielder Jayden Adams, marking their first acquisition of the January transfer window.
The Tshwane giants confirmed the arrival of the 23-year-old on Saturday, with Adams penning a three-and-a-half-year deal.
Adams moves to Sundowns after parting ways with Stellenbosch FC, where he enjoyed a successful five-year spell. During his time with the Cape Winelands-based club, he contributed significantly to their success, culminating in a 2023 Carling Knockout Cup triumph and a historic qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals this campaign.
A key player for Stellenbosch, Adams made 139 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 10 assists. His impressive performances, particularly in the last two seasons, attracted interest from numerous clubs, with Sundowns ultimately securing his signature after persistent pursuit.
The Bafana Bafana international has also been a regular feature in the national team under Hugo Broos. He played a crucial role in South Africa’s bronze medal finish at the 2023 AFCON finals in Ivory Coast.
Stellies were initially reluctant to sell Adams. However, after rejecting Sundowns’ initial approaches and demanding a transfer fee exceeding R30 million, as reported, Stellenbosch eventually accepted the Tshwane side’s offer, likely influenced by Adams’ desire for a new challenge.
Adams becomes the second Stellenbosch player to join Sundowns this season, following the arrival of Iqraam Rayners in the previous transfer window.
JAYDEN ADAMS COMPLETES MOVE TO SUNDOWNS
“Jayden Adams Is Yellow. New Year, New Colours. Masandawana, the speculation is over! It’s time to welcome our exciting new midfielder to the Yellow Nation,” said Sundowns in a brief statement on social media.
“WELCOME ADAMS. Bafana Bafana international Jayden Adams has joined the Home of the 14-times Champions on a 3.5-year deal.”
Meanwhile, Sundowns have also bolstered their defensive ranks by signing Argentine central defender Lucas Suarez on a one-year loan deal from CA Talleres.
Furthermore, as reported by FARPost, Bafana Bafana striker Lebo Mothiba has been offered a short-term contract by Sundowns and was spotted training with the club at Chloorkop this week.
