Pirates finish top of Group C with win over Al Ahly 

Orlando Pirates finished top of Group C in the CAF Champions League following their 2-1 win over Al Ahly at Cairo International Stadium in Egypt on Saturday night.

Relebohile Mofokeng broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute of the showdown. When everyone thought Mofokeng’s goal was enough to earn Pirates maximum points away from home as El Shahat found an equaliser in the 67th minute of the game.

However, Gilberto netted the winner by adding his name to the scoreline in the 83rd minute for Pirates to walk away victorious.

Pirates and the Egyptian giants, Al Ahly, played out a 0-0 draw in the first leg at Orlando Stadium in December 2024. The Red Devils are the defending champions, having secured a record 12th title in this prestigious tournament last season.

Pirates and Al Ahly came in this contest, having already qualified for the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League last weekend.

The Sea Robbers progressed to the last eight after their 2-1 victory against CR Belouizdad, while Al Ahly got the better of Stade d’Abidjan with a 3-1 scoreline.
