‘They make PSL unpredictable…’ Mpho Makola on 4 PSL coaches
Mpho Makola has shared an interesting view on expatriate coaches Nasreddine Nabi, Jose Riveiro, Muhsin Ertuğral and Miguel Cardoso in the PSL.
The retired footballer has raved about the value gained from the four coaches who he says are a blessing to current footballers.
Makola is impressed by Orlando Pirates‘ Jose Riveiro in all aspects. In over 100 matches in-charge, Riveiro has made stunning achievements.
These include five cup successes with an unprecedented three MTN8 trophies in a row plus double success in the last two Nedbank Cups. Only the Betway Premiership and Carling Knockout Cup titles have remained elusive for him.
On the otherhand, he opines that Nabi needs one more season to ensure his philosophy is in full swing.
The former Young Africans coach has had an indifferent spell so far, at the helm of Kaizer Chiefs.
In Tanzania, he proved to be unstoppable, after achieving a clean sweep of every available trophy in two complete seasons.
For Ertuğral, Makola says his experience gives him an edge over his rivals in the Betway Premiership. Ertuğral carved a niche during his time at Kaizer Chiefs in the early 2000s.
The former midfielder, Makola said Mamelodi Sundowns gaffer Cardoso has all the key elements for success.
But how he will fare under intense pressure from Pirates remains to be seen this season. Meanwhile, TS Galaxy also have an expatriate coach, Adnan Beganovic who replaced Sead Ramovic.
WHAT MAKOLA SAID ABOUT EXPRATRIATE COACHES IN THE BETWAY PREMIERSHIP
“These men make the PSL more unpredictable than ever. It’s that level of competition that I like. I am excited to see how the season ends and where they will lead their respective teams.
“Riveiro has done well at Orlando Pirates. But at Kaizer Chiefs, they have to give him [Nasreddine Nabi] one more season at least to fully adjust.
“Then also, Cardoso inherited a good team and has already shown that he can keep them in the same trajectory.
“Muhsin Ertuğral is a good coach. His return to PSL makes it more interesting. But to be honest, the presence of those men makes the league a hot pot.
“TS Galaxy also have an interesting coach, who I believe has got something special to offer in the PSL.
“At the end of the day, I am happy for the players working with these coaches. They are getting good exposure and I hope they utilize it well to the best of their abilities,” Makola told FARPost.
