Hlompho Kekana’s honest assessment of Miguel Cardoso
Former Mamelodi Sundowns captain Hlompho Kekana has shared his thoughts on Miguel Cardoso’s first few matches at the club. Cardoso was announced as head coach of Masandawana in December 2024, taking over from Manqoba Mngqithi.
The Portuguese mentor has been in charge of seven matches winning five with just one defeat and one draw. He was recently voted Betway Premiership coach of the month for November and December.
Kekana says by the look of things from the players, the 52-year-old is on the right track but warns that he needs to be given time to adapt.
WHAT HAS IMPRESSED HLOMPHO KEKANA IN THE LAST FEW MATCHES ABOUT THE NEW COACH
“When I see the players having smiles on their faces it means they are enjoying themselves and they want to impress the coach,” said Kekana.
“Coach Cardoso will need time because he is a new guy and he found the team in the season already. Any coach will tell you that they need specific players that they want to use. So he will need time and a lot of games because you can easily check players during the games.”
MAMELODI SUNDOWNS LEGEND PLEADS FOR MORE TIME TO ALLOW MIGUEL CARDOSO TO SETTLE
“Remember he didn’t have a pre-season. So we will have to wait and see as he adapts in that space. But I have no doubt. I am sure the players that have been given an opportunity to play for Mamelodi Sundowns up to this far have impressed the coach,” he added.
“It is also normal to sulk when you are not in the team because it shows you care about the team. I would like to see those players raising their hands and showing they want to play.”
