Sundowns coach Cardoso sets record straight on Lebo Mothiba

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso has set the record straight on striker Lebo Mothiba who has been under assessment at Chloorkop.

Cardoso was speaking after his side drew 1-1 against AS FAR Rabat in the final match of the CAF Champions League group stage.

After the match, he was asked about the Bafana Bafana striker, the Portuguese coach stated that Mothiba is not someone they expect to contribute to the club in the near future.

This comes following a lengthy period after he parted ways with the French side R. Strasbourg. He was also recovering from long term injury as he went under the knife.

However, Cardoso says Mothiba is a “medium or long-term plan” for the Tshwane giants.

The 28-year-old centre-forward started training with Sundowns a week ago as he hopes to join the 14-time league champions. As previously reported by this publication, Mothiba has been offered a short term contract by Bafana Ba Style.

CARDOSO ‘MAKES IT CLEAR’ ON LEBO MOTHIBA

“Let me make it clear, Lebo Mothiba will not help the team because he’s not in good condition,” said Cardoso.

“He comes from a long period of injury. So, we should not even think about him helping the team in the moment, he’s not in that process.

“He’s working with us but it’s a medium, long-term plan for him. He’s one year without playing after he went through big surgery.

“And he’s working on his condition, still many questions on the process. He’s a wonderful person and a wonderful player but everybody, even ourselves, we cannot put pressure on him.”

Meanwhile, for the January transfer window, Masandawana have signed by midfielder Jayden Adams from Stellenbosch FC.

Additionally, they have concluded the acquisition of defender Lucas Suárez with the aim of strengthening their defence department.
