Why Free Agents FC star believes they can beat Chiefs

Free Agents FC midfielder Thulani Dhladhla has explained why he believes his side can cause a major upset against Kaizer Chiefs in the 2025 Nedbank Cup’s last 32.

The draw has pitted the ABC Motsepe League side against the Soweto giants on Sunday at the FNB Stadium.

Chiefs, facing a challenging season, are looking to salvage their campaign by winning the Nedbank Cup. Under head coach Nasreddine Nabi, they have struggled for consistency in the Betway Premiership. They currently occupy fifth place in the league table with a record of six wins, three draws, and five losses in 14 games.

Their hopes of winning silverware this season were further diminished with their 4-0 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals.

With the Naturena-based side facing minnows Free Agents in their bid to win a domestic trophy, Dhladhla has revealed that his side is looking to capitalise on Chiefs’ form against lower division teams.

Amakhosi previously lost against lower teams in the past, such as Baroka FC, TS Galaxy, Richards Bay FC, and Milford FC.

“I would say my teammates are excited [to play against Chiefs], personally I’m excited because I think it’s everyone’s dream to play against Chiefs or Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns,” Dhladhla said.

“So I think they’re feeling the way that I’m feeling, they are really looking forward to this match and they are starting to prepare for it.

“I think the fixture favours us because if they’re a team that has a history of losing against lower division clubs, it means we have a good chance of winning against them.”

Meanwhile, the Glamour Boys will be hoping to pick another win ahead of the Soweto Derby on 1 February, 2025.
