Kaizer Chiefs secure Congolese winger Glody Lilepo
Betway Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs have bolstered their attacking ranks with the signing of Congolese winger Glody Makabi Lilepo. Following days of speculation, FARPost can reveal that Chiefs have reached an agreement with Lilepo’s French third-tier side, Valenciennes FC, for a transfer fee believed to be around €500,000 [R9.6 million].
The player has signed a pre-agreement with the South African giants and is set to join the club pending a successful medical. Lilepo, a 27-year-old winger, has opted to join the Soweto giants despite interest from European clubs, including those in Ligue 2 and Tunisia.
Amakhosi coach Nasreddine Nabi is a long-time admirer of the player, having previously attempted to sign him during his tenure at Young Africans. At that time, the talented winger was plying his trade with Sudanese giants Al Hilal.
Lilepo is expected to arrive in South Africa in the coming days to finalise his move to the 2014/15 Premiership champions.
GLODY MAKABI LILEPO TO ADD A NEW DIMENSION TO CHIEFS’ ATTACK
Lilepo scored seven goals and provided five assists in 46 appearances across all competitions for Valenciennes FC. His arrival is expected to add a new dimension to Chiefs’ attack.
Nabi’s options will undoubtedly be enhanced by the addition of the player who came through AS Vita’s ranks. His direct style, ability to take on opponents and creative flair will undoubtedly bolster the team.
He joins SuperSport United striker Tashreeq Morris as another January acquisition. Amakhosi attacker Christian Saile has moved to SuperSport in a swap deal that allows Chiefs to add another foreigner to their ranks.
As the Soweto Derby looms, Chiefs supporters eagerly anticipate seeing their new signings in action. However, Lilepo’s participation hinges on a successful medical and the timely acquisition of his work visa.
