Mosimane loses key player due to Esteghlal’s financial struggles
The financial crisis at Esteghlal FC is starting to affect Pitso Mosimane’s progress, after forcing an ex-Marc-Vivien Foe award winner to leave.
Mosimane and his technical team have continued to work at Esteghlal FC despite being unpaid since arrival in October 2024.
The former Bafana Bafana coach has remained grounded despite this predicament.
In truth, the Mamelodi Sundowns legend is determined to achieve success, by ensuring Esteghlal FC’s rise from the ashes.
The Famous Royal Blues have been a pale shadow of themselves since the start of the season.
In 16 matches, they managed to garner four wins, while losing and drawing six times respectively.
In addition, the financial struggle is already forcing players to press the exit button from the club.
PITSO MOSIMANE LOSES DR CONGO STAR GAEL KAKUTA
Notably, DR Congo midfielder Gael Kakuta who won the prestigious Marc-Vivien Foe award has terminated his contract with Esteghlal FC.
The club announced Kakuta’s exit following their defeat to Shams Azar Qazvin on Monday afternoon.
“According to Esteghlal Club’s official media report, this evening [Monday], after a meeting between Esteghlal club directors with Kakuta, the parties reached an agreement to terminate cooperation.
“Esteghlal FC thanks Kakuta’s efforts during half of the season for his presence in the club,” reads the club statement.
Pitso Mosimane’s Esteghlal had been decent since assuming the head coach role. Prior to their to setback on Monday, against relegation-threatened Shams Azar Qazvin, they sat on a nine match unbeaten run in all competitions.
As a result, they dropped to 11th position on the log table where they have 18 points in 16 matches.
How they have played since Mosimane’s arrival is not reflective of the team’s financial crisis.
The veteran gaffer instilled composure and belief that ensured his team performs competitively under the challenging circumstance.
