Siwahla reveals his two biggest regrets of his football career

Mkhanyiseli Siwahla, who recently returned to football after years of retirement with North West ABC Motsepe side Lerumo Lions, has revealed his two biggest regrets from his professional football career.

Siwahla rose to prominence in PSL history when he scored his debut goal against Dynamos in 2004, at the age of 15 and 174 days, in Ajax Cape Town colours.

After five seasons with the Cape club, Siwahla represented clubs such as Bloemfontein Celtic, FC Cape Town, Chippa United, and Mpumalanga Black Aces before going overseas.

The 36-year-old has played for clubs overseas, including the Polish team KS Proch Pionki and the Slovakian club Partizan Bardejov. He also played for Mochudi Centre Chiefs in Botswana.

Siwahla retired from professional football in March 2019 after returning to South Africa and cutting ties with KS Proch Pionki.

However, he has now come out of retirement and aims to assist Lerumo in gaining promotion to the second tier of SA football. Lerumo is among the eight teams from the ABC Motsepe League that have earned a place in the Nedbank Cup Last 32, where they will compete against Motsepe Foundation Championship team Durban City.

WHAT ARE MKHANYISELI SIWAHLA’S REGRETS?

Siwahla revealed that one of his greatest regrets was failing to construct a big house for his mother, which he had promised her during the height of his football career.

He also stated that he intended to live abroad until retirement; however, events did not unfold as he had hoped.

“I think I have two regrets. The first one is that I promised my mother I would build her a big house, and it didn’t happen as I had promised,” Siwahla told FARPost.

“After scoring that goal on my debut, I thought I would go overseas and only return when I retired, but it didn’t happen.

“But such is life; anything that happens does so for a reason, and we learn from such things moving forward.”
