Thapelo Morena talks Sundowns’ current main issue
Mamelodi Sundowns utility player Thapelo Morena has discussed the main issue that his side has been dealing with recently.
Morena was speaking with journalists after the Brazilians’ clash against AS FAR Rabat in the CAF Champions League on Sunday evening.
Masandawana drew 1-1 with the Moroccans after conceding a late goal, ending the group stage in a second position.
While the Tshwane giants have been getting desired results, their victories haven’t been convincing, and their goal-scoring output has been underwhelming somewhat.
Morena identified missed scoring opportunities as a key concern, stating that they have been squandering numerous chances and the same happened in their recent game against FAR Rabat.
THAPELO MORENA ON WHAT SUNDOWNS HAVE BEEN WORKING ON
“We need to work on our finishing and convert our chances as much as possible,” said Morena.
“In the first half [against AS FAR Rabat], we had quite a lot of chances and we were know 1-0, 2-0 score is not really a good one in football because anything can change.
“So, unfortunately that’s what happened and yeah. We’ve been working on it and trying to fix it because in the dying minutes of the game is where the teams come to us and try to get something.”
Following their Champions League campaign, the league champions will shift their focus to domestic action. They face Magesi FC in the Betway Premiership on Wednesday, 22 January, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Determined to avoid a repeat of their Carling Knockout Cup final defeat against Dikwena tša Meetse, Morena has emphasised the need for a heightened level of performance to secure a victory.
“The mentality is gonna be the same, the hunger is gonna be the same because it’s how it is in the PSL,” he stated.
“Magesi, we played against them in the final and we didn’t have a good result. We think this week we gonna take a notch up.”
